This year marks the twenty-eighth Examiner Cup contest between the North and North-West clubs.
The Northern sides have won the cup 15 times and the North West 12, but figures have levelled up in the last six years, with four wins for Queechy and two for South Launceston.
The Suns have defeated the Qs by solid margins in all three home and away games this season, results which indicate they could be on their way to their third flag.
The Suns under Coach Al McBain have also posted fifteen wins and three draws from the eighteen-round series.
Kurt Budgeon, Keelan Beattie, Al McBain and Brad Buchanan between them scored 47 of the team’s 71 goals giving them a formidable attack for the final series.
Jamie Pinner has matured into an integral part of the team with solid goalkeeping efforts and plenty of encouragement from the back.
Queechy doesn’t boast the same win rate, and may be without their best scorers Finn Bailey, and Bryce Blacklow.
Sam Rossetto is capable of consistently finding the net as is Ryan Horne.
Queechy have been in finals contention before, winning the Examiner Cup on five previous occasions and the never-give-in attitude and the double chance could snare another win.
Burnie Baptist and Devonport meet for the elimination final with a win each from two games by just single goals.
Baptist keeper Callum Poke is improving with the experience, and showing confidence in himself and full back Leigh Burley.
Coach Matt Selby, Marty Bissett, Jarrod Poke and Anthony Lockett are seasoned campaigners when it comes to finals hockey and the veteran heads will work with their junior charges to settle pre-match nerves.
Lockett has found the net on no less than six occasions throughout the season, but rising star Jake Wolfe has eight, as the youngsters dominate the Baptist attack.
The Subbies have struggled with player numbers making it difficult to know how they will fair.
Keeper Derrick Heathorn has kept them in the hunt assisted by Daniel Ford and Callum Dubeld. With an extra effort they may live to fight next week.
Mick Williams, Bruce Will and Daniel Hinze work tirelessly in the Subbies attack in true never-say-die spirit.
