The students were up against 12 other schools, each with the skills and determination to win.
After a set of polished performances, the Launceston College Band walked away from the championships with a win in the open D grade competition and second place in the junior C grade, missing out by just one point.
Flute player Merran Clay, 13, said she had fun travelling to NSW and playing alongside her band mates.
“I was very excited and happy when we won … we’ve been working pretty hard,” Merran said.
“I like being part of the band because it’s about being able to play with other people and making friends.”
Music teacher Peter Quigley said he was very proud and impressed with every student who played at the championships.
“The standard of the competition and the music that was made was extremely high and we were very, very pleased with our performance,” Mr Quigley said.
“We knew that the competition was going to be very hard so we were delighted when we found out we won.
“We don’t run this like a normal school program, this is business, but it’s fun.”
The band will compete at the Australian National Band Championships to be held in Launceston next year.
