Tasmania Police will use a $250,000 reward offer to coax out detailed information on the 2009 murder of Shane Geoffrey Barker.

Tasmania Police Assistant Commissioner Glenn Frame said the money would provide that person with the information with “a fresh start”, adding that police would also willingly provide them with protection.
Mr Barker was killed after being shot four times outside his Campbell Town home on August 2, 2009.
Police started a review of the case last November and have decided, along with providing a big financial inducement, to reinterview all the people that they had already spoken with and conduct further searches.
“We firmly believe that Shane’s killer is somebody that we’ve already spoken to,” Assistant Commissioner Frame said.
“It was a planned attack, there was motivation behind it so it’s highly likely that the murderer knew Mr Barker.”
He said police believed that there were people from the Campbell Town community who had information that may lead to a conviction.
“With the passage of time, people’s circumstances change and this amount of money is a life-changing opportunity,” Assistant Commissioner Frame said.
“(It) would allow someone to get a fresh start.”
Mr Barker’s father Rob said the family had endured seven years of rumours about the killing – each one of them a feasible story.
“And it’s not fair that Shane has been in his grave while the killer has been wandering around free as the breeze,” he said.
