Melissa Battye and her husband Grant Battye awoke about midnight to find the vehicle on fire in their front yard.
Tasmania Fire Service was called to the home and the fire was contained shortly after.
Mrs Battye and her family have lived in the home, which is managed by Community Housing Limited, for the past six years and said it was an ongoing issue in the neighbourhood.
“The fence had only just been repaired after a car went through it at Christmas,” she said.
“I don’t feel safe anymore. We pay our rent, we do what we are supposed to do and this happens, it’s not fair.
“We need more police patrols around here.”
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said a car was “hooning” in the street when it lost control in her driveway about 8.30pm.
“I’ve had cars come into my yard before as well,” she said.
“We all just want to be able to sleep at night and feel safe.”
Tasmania Police Inspector Michael Johnstone said police were at the scene after the incident occurred and were carrying out an investigation.
Inspector Johnstone said police conducted “regular patrols” around Rocherlea.
Community Housing Limited national manager Brett Wake said staff had visited the property to assess the situation.
“Community Housing Limited staff have informed the tenant that the car will be removed and the fence repaired as soon as possible at no cost to the tenant,” Mr Wake said.
“Community Housing Limited will remove the car completely once the police have completed their investigations. In the interim, CHL will be moving the car out of the tenant’s yard on to the road or in to the vacant block next door.”
Mr Wake said the organisation would look at putting up a fence at the front of the residence as well as at the neighbouring property, to protect both homes from the road.
“Community Housing Limited will also be approaching the council to suggest they place speed humps in that street to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” he said.
