Best mates Karl Singline and Kelvin Todd will hit the tarmac as Tasmania is Kind of Cool in a car valued at $1000 for the 2017 Shitbox Rally from May 27 to June 2.
Starting in Adelaide the pair will travel with a pack of about 200 entrants to Cairns, covering highly variable terrain, remote outback roads and changing climates.
“Based on experiences with cancer in both our families we thought it would be a good challenge to participate in,” Mr Todd said.
The pair are less concerned about their ability to complete the race in a vehicle which might struggle to complete a 30 minute cruise, as they are about spending five days sitting less than a metre apart.
“Just under 4000 kilometres in five days...it is going to be the most time we’ve ever spent that close for that long,” Mr Singline said.
They are yet to buy their car, but they are on the lookout for something sturdy, with plenty of parts.
Tasmania is Kind of Cool is on the hunt for sponsors to spruik up their vehicle with stickers and logos prior to the event.
“We are hoping our team name will get a few local businesses involved as well,” Mr Todd said.
For more information regarding sponsorship email karlsingline@outlook.com.
All cars entered in the event will be auctioned off and all proceeds will go towards the Cancer Council.
In the past seven years, the rally has raised $7.8 million for the Cancer Council.
