Scott Bevan Lucas, 28, had 544 grams of MDMA in a bag stored underneath a Bald Hill Road home at which he was staying in October 2015.
Justice Stephen Estcourt, from the Hobart Supreme Court, said some of the tablets had disintegrated but after weighing police determined it originally contained about 2300 ecstasy tablets.
Justice Estcourt said the street value of the ecstasy tablets Lucas had was estimated to be between $57,500 to $115,000.
Prior to becoming dependent on methamphetamine, Lucas had a carpentry business intermittently for more than five years.
The court heard Lucas was earning about $3000 a fortnight, with the majority of his earnings being spent on illegal drugs and gambling.
Lucas began taking drugs recreationally when he was 18 years old, then at 22 he began taking methamphetamine.
At the time of Lucas’ arrest in October 2015, Lucas said he was spending $400 a day on the methamphetamine.
Lucas claimed he supported his drug addiction after winning $70,000 on poker machines.
But Justice Estcourt said Lucas was supporting his drug addiction by selling illegal substances.
Justice Estcourt said the support of Lucas’ mother, stepfather and partner, and his desire to tackle his methamphetamine addiction, were among the reasons he imposed a short non-parole period of six months.
Lucas’ sentence was backdated to June 14.
