Events organiser Andrew Palmer said he hopes the funding will allow him to bring in international talent to the highly regarded ballroom dancing competition.
“We would like to travel to Asia and try and develop a relationship with a few different countries and get them to come to Northern Tasmania,” he said.
The state government through Events Tasmania will provide $165,000 for the event between 2017 and 2021.
The competition attracts talent from interstate and overseas, and this year features nine-time world champion Bryan Watson and world stage competitors Sigurdur Thor Sigurdsson and Annalisa Zoanetti.
Bass Liberal MHA Sarah Courtney said the event featured over 500 interstate competitors.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, August 13 at the Silverdome.
