Biosecurity Tasmania (BT) acting general manager Rae Burrows said a commercial blueberry grower had notified them of suspect plants earlier this week and testing had confirmed the disease was present in six out of 11 samples taken from the infected site.
“The grower is working with us and has put measures in place to reduce the risk of further movement of the plant fungal disease and we are also undertaking a systematic survey of the property to identify where the disease is present,” Ms Burrows said.
“As part of the response we have identified and implemented with the grower a range of quarantine and hygiene measures to reduce the risk of further movement of the disease.
BT will be undertaking surveillance of other properties within a 20-kilometre radius of the infected site.
