Tasmanian Kerry Hore and her three teammates – young Queenslanders Madeleine Edmunds and Jessica Hall plus Victorian Jen Cleary – have missed out on a place in the A Final of the women’s quadruple sculls by just six one hundredths of a second in Rio.

The unexpected result followed a very good lead up to the Rio Olympic Games, winning a silver medal at the final 2016 World Rowing Cup 3 in Poland.
Hore and her teammates were obviously upset after missing the final by such a small margin, recording a time of 6:28:60.
“This wasn’t how I pictured finishing up, but I am glad that I didn’t quit rowing after London,” she said.
“I don’t think I would have done anything differently.
“Personally I am proud of how I have conducted myself, treated other people and I have just done the very best I can.
“I’m not saying I haven’t made mistakes or that I wouldn’t change things if I look back, but it’s done now.
“I’ve rung every little last bit out of myself, and tried to draw the best out of others as well, and I guess when you finish up that’s all you can really hope for.”
Tasmanian Institute of Sport rowing coach Brett Crow said Hore was an inspiration to the state’s next generation of rowers.
‘‘It’s huge for a Tasmanian to achieve what she has. She’s put a lot of time and effort into her rowing and deserves the reward,” Crow said.
Shortly after the quad scull repechage, the women's eights heats were held at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
The Australia crew featuring Buckingham's Meaghan Volker, which was only reformed in full at the weekend after a late call up to Rio, finished fourth (6:22:68) and will race in Wednesday’s repechage after the United States took the only qualification spot for the final.
Hockey players Tim Deavin and Eddie Ockenden are the only Tasmanians in action on Tuesday as the Kookaburras play their third fixture against Belgium with Great Britain to follow on Wednesday.
