The town in the Fingal Valley draws the majority of its water from the South Esk River, but it has been the subject of a ‘Do Not Consume’ notice after cadmium and lead were detected above acceptable levels.
Construction work should be under way by September and the project is due to be completed before the end of the year.
TasWater chief Michael Brewster said several alternatives were considered including bore water and collecting rainwater.

Most of the pipeline will be constructed along existing roadside easements.
