The Southern-based not-for-profit distributed about 1.36 million kilograms of food – equal to more than two million meals – throughout the state in the last financial year.
Executive director Edward Gauden said demand was easily double that.
He linked the increased need with job losses in all sectors.
“The need has enormously grown and it is growing continually,” Mr Gauden said.
“We’re actively trying to get a warehouse in the North.
“Clearly the need in the North is pretty prominent, people are struggling.”
As demand grows, so does the need for food and sponsorship, and Mr Gauden said much of Foodbank Tasmania’s support came from interstate.
“We get a lot of support from the mainland because we don’t have much manufacturing any more,” he said.
