In the HQ Holden and Formula Vee championships, only nine points cover the first four competitors in the regularity class.

The 24-event programme will start with practice and qualifying from 8.50am, with the first race scheduled for 4.50pm – all categories will race three heats and a double-points final.

The biggest field of the day is in the HQ Holdens, with 18 cars, which will see Launceston driver Duane Preece aiming to increase his championship lead over former Tasmanian champion Andrew Toth, of Hobart.

Preece leads the series by nine points, and with up to 150 available on Sunday will be hoping to repeat his third round victory at Baskerville.

Battles are expected throughout the field, with previous series leader Jason Bell, reigning state champion Phil Ashlin, both of Launceston, and Hobart’s multiple champion Andrew Bird all out to challenge the series leaders.

It’s a similar story in the Formula Vee category, with a variety of chassis manufacturers battling for the championship.

Reigning Australian champion Wade McLean, driving an Elliott, and former Devonport racer and now Hobart-bases Dion Wyllie (Spectre) are only separated by 25 points at the top of the table.

Wyllie won the last round, in which McLean finished third, and another round win could see him take over leadership.

The improved Lindsay Murfet (Bee Cee), of Devonport, wily Hobart veteran and former state champion Nino Bocchino (Elfin Crusader) and James Nesbit (Sabre) are all in the mix for series points.

The regularity class is also home to a varied mix of race vehicles with only nine points separating the top four drivers.

Brett Mansfield (Holden Commodore) has a one-point lead over Craig Trenham (Mini Cooper S), who is six points ahead of Ashley Board (Holden Gemini), who is only two points ahead of Neil Johnson (Porsche 944 Turbo).
