Fossil fuel addiction
HAVE you noticed that those enthusiastic supporters of renewable energy are called fanatics (The Examiner 21/7).

That climate change being substituted for anthropogenic global warming is encouraging the misnomer that renewable energy technology is still at a low level.
I genuinely despair at this cursory dismissal of the challenges that face us regarding climate change. If we are addicted to anything it is fossil fuels. If we want genuine change then we must invest.
There is absolutely no reason why renewable energy technology and policy cannot be developed side-by-side with existing energy policy and distribution.
In fact it is the either/or solution that will cost us dearly. If denial and faux science and the hot air it generates could be harvested our problems would be greatly diminished.
Tony Newport, Hillwood.
Federal Health Minister
I WAS surprised, amazed, that the Federal Health Minister Susan Leay who was “missing in action” all through the election campaign was reappointed to her portfolio especially as the election was fought on a health issue, Medicare.
Even though the Medicare issue was branded a lie by some, the Medicare rebates as presented in the 2016 federal budget have been frozen until 2020.
This should have been mentioned much more during the election campaign by Labor. I wonder if this measure will get through the senate, it shouldn’t.
Malcolm Scott, Newstead.
LABOR PARTY
SO WE have the federal Labor Party going on ad nauseum about the divisions in the Liberal party. They are hardly in a position to talk at the moment as their factions are causing chaos with regards to Kim Carr etc who is being threatened by the opposing faction.
It's amazing that in this day and age unions have the power to tell Bill Shorten who he can have in the shadow ministry.
Glennis Sleurink, Launceston.
Tasmanian representation
SO Eric Abetz is unhappy that there is no Tasmanian representation in Cabinet.
What a short memory the good senator has.
It was because Senator Colbeck did not back the hard right and vote for Mr Abbott that Mr Abetz and others engineered the demotion of Mr Colbeck, thereby ensuring the loss of Tasmania's only cabinet position.
So please, instead of blaming Malcolm Turnbull, Senator Abetz, have a good long look at your own machinations and the resultant state represention in parliament.
Brian Lee, Riverside.
Wicked campers
A WICKED Campers van parked in Deloraine featured unprintable material.
The local constabulary agreed that they would arrest me should I direct similar language at one of their officers, so why should members of the general public be expected to tolerate this?
John King, Deloraine.
Liberal pre-selection
I WRITE in support of former Premier Tony Rundle's comments on Liberal pre-selections (The Examiner, July 20).
I have never been a member of any political party but the recent actions of the selection committee defy belief.
Senator Richard Colbeck's farcical demotion on the ticket has indeed backfired and cost us a voice in the ministry.
The lack of any female representation from our state in the reps and senate is a terrible look for Tasmania's Liberal organisation.
An urgent injection of new blood is vital to restore the party's fortunes.
