In hindsight, the tragic events of the past 24 hours should have came as no surprise given what has already transpired in France over the past 12 months.

July 14 is that country’s national day, the day the people of France celebrate Bastille Day – the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which was a pivotal moment during the French Revolution.
Yesterday morning in Nice, a single act of evil ended the lives of at least 85 innocent people.
It was shocking. It was barbaric. It was cold-blooded murder. It was obviously another act of terrorism perpetrated upon a country that has already lost so many lives to terrorism – on a continent that seems to be bearing the brunt of so many attacks at the hands of ISIS.
There have been eight terror attacks in the past 19 months in France, with a death toll of nearly 230 people.
Yesterday, a man driving a white truck mounted the footpath and drove into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day holiday on the Promenade des Anglais. He was also believed to be armed with guns and grenades.
Such is the barbarity of terrorism, it knows no boundaries. Even young children are targets nowadays.
As the gravity of the attacks became clear, people took to social media to express their disbelief, their fears, and their sorrow.
This time at least, no ridiculous hashtags starting #PrayFor whichever city or country happens to be the latest target of a terrorist attack.
Hashtags may make people on social media feel a little more connected, but they’re blatantly pointless when faced with an enemy that has no regard for life and is determined to kill as many people as possible, by any means necessary.
The perpetrators of these attacks aren’t interested in peace. They’re not interested in finding amicable solutions to the deeply complicated troubles that grip the world we live in. The targets of their mass killing sprees come from all walks of life, all countries, all religions.
The world must unite against terrorism. Countries must join together to stamp out this pervading evil once and for all.
Hashtags and online catch-phrases won’t stop terrorism.
Only a united world community determined to act against those responsible for these type of attacks will triumph.
