Ms Breward had only ever watched from the sidelines as her brother played until her school, Queechy High School, introduced an all-girl school AFL team. Before that she had never considered a career in AFL.
Since then, Ms Breward has played for Launceston and now she is hooked. “Once I started I’ve loved it. I’ve never thought of having that career but thinking about it I think it would be pretty good,” said Ms Breward.
She is excited by the new pathways that have opened up with the announcement of an AFL national women’s league.
Ms Breward said the tryouts were a good experience for young girls interested in AFL. She said being selected for the Next Generation would be exciting beyond words, “It would be the best.”
