UPDATE 1pm: Snow is now forecast to 500 metres on Tuesday, and as low as 100 metres on Wednesday, in the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts.
UPDATE 11am: Northern Tasmania is set to be battered by damaging winds.
The Bureau of Meteorology has released a severe weather warning, current for Northern Tasmania for Tuesday afternoon.
Winds of 60km/h are expected to hit peak gusts of 100km/h. Thunderstorms are expected to exacerbate the weather extremes.
Sites around Tasmania on Tuesday have already recorded winds of up to 85km/h as a low pressure system to the south of the state mingles with an approaching cold front.
Wind gusts in Launceston have so far peaked at 65km/h at 11am.
UPDATE 10am: The Bureau of Meteorology has reiterated its alert for dangerous driving conditions.
Roads in the North West, central North, North East, West and Central Plateau districts are affected by water over roads and reduced visibility.
Tasmania Police has urged motorists to drive to the conditions.
There is also snow forecast for Tuesday evening for the West and Central Plateau.
EARLIER: Tasmanian rivers remain on flood watch as the state prepares for its second day of downpours.
On Monday, sites around Northern Tasmania received up to 25 millimetres of rain, with some elevated locations copping up to 70 millimetres.
The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting heavy rains to continue on Tuesday in Northern Tasmania, bringing up to 30 millimetres of rain.
Moderate flood watches are in place for the North Esk and Mersey rivers, and minor flood warnings for the Meander and South Esk rivers.
Snow is also expected to fall as low as 200 metres on Tuesday through to Wednesday in the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts.
Road weather alerts are also in place, with large masses of water creating hazardous driving conditions around the state, but particularly in the North.
