Mr and Mrs Evans were found dead with gunshot wounds in their Orana Place home on September 2, 2013.
In his triple-0 call to police, Mr Evans said he had murdered his wife.
When police arrived they found Mr Evans dead also.
Police have been unable to identify a clear motive for the killing.
The coronial inquest will be held to determine circumstances around the incident.
The inquest at the Launceston Magistrates Court was expected to hear evidence from the investigating police officer, a general practitioner and a psychiatrist.
But counsel assisting Coroner Oliver McTaggart Constable Hamish Woodgate said the inquest proceedings could not continue until an aspect of Mr Evans psychiatrist care was investigated further.
Constable Woodgate said Mr Evans’ mental health in the lead-up to he and his wife’s death would be the subject of the inquest.
“There is an aspect of the care… that needs to be examined,” Constable Woodgate said following inquest proceedings.
“We’re seeking some advice in relation to that – the treatment of his mental health and what may have contributed to the rapid decline.”
A psychiatric report on Mr Evans suggests he did suffer a “rapid” mental health decline.
The inquest will continue at a later date that is to be determined.
