HOW can voters who want equal civil rights for LGBTI people be expected to vote for the Liberal party when the party won't release the details before the election of what the same-sex marriage plebiscite will look and read like? I especially say this with the media reporting that senior ultra right-wing Coalition members are trying to rig their dud plebiscite by going with a electorate majority result and not an Australian public majority so Coalition colleagues can ignore what polls for years have indicated would be a majority support vote. With Prime Minister Turnbull also making it a free vote after the plebiscite, the $160 million price tag has never been so utterly pointless and wasteful to Australian taxpayers.

PLEASE, for the future of Australia, may everyone be encouraged to only vote for the best candidates in both houses of our parliament on July 2. Please don’t just vote for parties, most importantly, vote below the line in the Senate and only vote for 12 or more people who you know are really good.

INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING
FANTASTIC news, ALP Candidate for Bass Ross Hart has secured a funding pledge of $75 million towards upgrading Launceston’s archaic and totally inadequate sewage infrastructure with construction of a modern standard tertiary-treatment plant which will stop the release of raw sewage into the River Tamar (The Examiner, June 23). Given the recently released NRM North Tamar River report card which found “…overall conditions in the Launceston zone only met water quality targets 56 per cent of the time’’, confirming that not only are Launceston’s waterways significantly environmentally degraded they also constitute a serious threat to public health there is no doubt a such a facility is urgently needed (The Examiner, June 21). The state government should follow federal Labor’s lead and, along with TasWater, local government and the Liberals, guarantee the additional funding required.
