The Suns opened the scoring with a field goal for Kurt Budgeon in the opening six minutes of the game, but were unable to add any further before the half time break.
The Q’s were mounting attacks only to find Brad Buchanan and Rod Neville solid in the Suns defence.
The Suns looked stronger in the second half as coach Al McBain converted the first of two penalty strokes, adding more scoreboard pressure to the Q’s cause.
The Q’s shuffled the deck as they attempted to get back into the game leaving more holes in their defence for the Suns to attack with goals for Shannon Weedon and James Sexton taking the score to 5-0 at the final siren.
Devonport and South Burnie also posted big wins to consolidate positions in the four with a four-point margin over the bottom four sides.
Devonport opened the Tamar Churinga defence early to post four goals in the first half, with two each for Callum Dubbeld and Bruce Will, and setting Tamar an insurmountable task.
The Subbies relaxed in the second half with scrappy play that yielded just one goal for Daniel Heinz, and allowed Tamar’s Jack Brophy to post a consolation goal.
South Burnie put together a strong performance to beat Smithton comfortably, posting two goals to the Saints one in the first half.
Smithton’s Sam Porteus-Smith worked tirelessly in the Saints midfield, in an effort described by Coach Nigel Kingston as a best on ground performance.
A solid pep talk and positional changes had the Saints on the back foot from the first whistle of the second half as Isaac Woo, Stuart Bowles, Tom Bax and Redman added goals to the tally giving the Hawks a percentage boosting margin, and a share of third position on the ladder.
Burnie Baptist held a comfortable two-goal advantage at the break against cross-town rivals City Marians with standout performances from young guns Tom Wylie and Alexander Poke.
A reshuffle at the break had the Bloods applying plenty of pressure with numerous penalty corners, with conversions for Liam Grundy and Matt Cameron levelling the score.
