Seventy-year-old resident Kaye Wise – a seven-year resident of Inveresk – decided to pack-up and go ahead of the historic flood event.
She was one of dozens in Inveresk who heeded the Launceston City Council’s advice to evacuate early before the South Esk River peaked early Wednesday morning.
“I’m just going to go,” she said.
“I feel a bit upset and shaken, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Ms Wise was assisted by her family who shuffled cabinets and electrical items out of her house while she spoke of previous flood scares.
Moved by the commotion, the 70-year-old gave thanks to those who had taken the time to help her move her belonging to a storage shed on higher ground.
She stayed with a friend overnight.
“All my friends came to help. It’s good to have good friends.”
