Mr Gutwein and Premier Will Hodgman have promised a “breakthrough” budget that sees the state return to surplus.
The Upper House blocked a pay rise disallowance motion on Wednesday night, meaning Tasmanian MPs are destined for a 10.5 per cent pay rise.
Mr Hodgman said government MPs would not accept a pay rise, instead accepting an increase in line with the wage price index (2.4 per cent in 2016).
The government’s decision will stand until politicians pay is next considered by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in March 2018.
Labor and the Greens have vowed not to accept the 10.5 per cent pay increase, and it’s expected party leaders Bryan Green and Cassy O’Connor will further outline their processes on Thursday.
