The 65-year-old pilot was the only person on board the plane and he escaped the incident uninjured.
A forklift was used to remove the aircraft from the runway around 5pm.
The airstrip was closed to air traffic for several hours as Tasmania Police investigation took place.
Qantas grounded all flights to-and-from Devonport due to the runway being blocked.
A inbound flight from Melbourne was delayed due to the closure.
Tasmania Police has advised the Australian Transport Safety Bureau about the incident.
Evidence was gathered by police and will be forwarded on to ATSB for further investigation.
Tasmania Fire Services sent one heavy pumper, two heavy tankers and one rescue vehicle to the site.
Police, ambulance and airport operation staff also attended the scene.
The Airport returned to full service at 5:30pm.
