There is plenty of music at both ends of the state this weekend, with a couple of bands hitting Tassie up for tours. First off the bat in Launceston is SPACEJUNK on Friday night. The Melbourne band will play at the Royal Oak from 8pm (with Lennin Mkarthey and High Finance), and at the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart on Saturday from 8pm, with the same supports, plus The Know Nothings.
Also doing the Launceston-Hobart thang this weekend is a stellar punk-rock line-up in WIL WAGNER, PINCH HITTER, and MERIDAN. The three-pronged attack is further bolstered with a set from an unplugged version of Luca Brasi, and Wagner was only just added to the line-up last week. The tour will start in Hobart on Thursday night at the Brisbane Hotel at 8pm. Then it’s Launceston on Friday the 13th at the Gunners Arms, from 7pm. Entry to both shows is $10.
The Royal Oak is set to get a blasting on Saturday as CLARET ASH and friends hit the stage from 8.30pm. The ACT-born band will be supported by Melbourne’s Greytomb, and Launceston’s Atra Vetosus and Zero Degrees Freedom. Entry is $10.
Indie trio LITTLE MAY will be stopping into Hobart on Saturday for their For The Company national tour. You may have heard the album of the same name spinning on Triple J as a feature album recently. The band will play at The Waratah Hotel from 9pm. Tickets are available for $22 through Oztix, or on the door for $25.
Australian comedy icon TONY MARTIN is heading down south to help relaunch Fresh Comedy in its new home of the Royal Oak in Launceston. You can catch Martin at the monthly comedy night’s first gig at the Oak on Friday, May 20, with two shows: 6pm (doors at 5.30pm) and 8.30pm (doors at 8pm). Tickets are selling quickly for both times and are available through trybooking.com for $20 for reserved seating and $15 for general admission.
LUCA BRASI have announced their home-state dates for the If This Is All We’re Going To Be album tour. You can see them in Launceston for a one-off show on Saturday, July 2, and the official tour wi
