Woolmers Estate will again be affording Tasmanians the chance to experience all three next weekend with the second instalment of the mini antiques roadshow.
The roadshow enjoyed a highly successful debut last year, attracting antique enthusiasts from across the state and unearthing a $4000 terracotta dwarf.
This year’s event has doubled in size to feature four shows, with sessions kicking off at 10.30am and 2.30pm on May 14 and 15.
Event organiser and antiques guru Kaye Pickett will again team up with Tullochs Auctions owner Scott Millen to host the event.
“People bring their little treasures and we place them all on a table and when they arrive they come in and sit down in front of a cosy fire,” Ms Pickett said.
“When they start their Devonshire teas, Scott and myself will pick up a piece and hold it up and walk around the room explaining what it is, what it's made of, where it's from, how old it is and with a bit of luck how much it is worth.”
Ms Pickett said discovering the history of an object was often as exciting as learning its value.
“The story really is the most interesting part – a lot of people believe a piece is English when it might be Austrian or German or something like that.
“Some people bring their pieces out to find a value but a lot of people just want to know the history about it.”
The Tullochs Auctions founder said she was already excited by the prospect of what the Woolmers shows might unearth.
“Sometimes you get some really exciting things, having been in antiques for so long I’ve seen many many pieces but to see something I've never seen before excites me as well.
“I've probably seen it in a book or something like that but I mightn’t have handled it or that kind of thing.”
Entry is $25 with a limit of one item for evaluation per person.
