Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic had requested $1.5 million in new funds, and Environment Minister Greg Hunt is expected to visit Launceston this month to consider the Launceston Flood Authority’s river strategy and formalise the deal.
The funds will continue the Tamar River Recovery Plan beyond 2016.
“Real progress is being made in restoring the health of Launceston’s rivers and we will continue to support that work,” Mr Nikolic said.
More than $7 million was included for a Microwave Assisted Thermal Sterilisation machine for the defence facility at Scottsdale and a production facility in Launceston, which was announced earlier this year.
There were no funds to assist Launceston’s water and sewerage woes.
TasWater is considering a report on how to fix Launceston’s inefficient combined drainage system, funded with $500,000 from the last federal election.
“What we do with sewerage infrastructure depends on what comes out of the report,” Mr Nikolic said.
“In the next few weeks we’ll announce what the options are and what funding follows.”
There was also no money allocated to assist UTAS move its Newnham campus to Inveresk.
Mr Nikolic said the proposal was still being discussed.
He said Bass jobseekers would benefit from a $840 million youth employment program which includes an internship program that pays participants a $200 incentive per fortnight.
“We’re giving them those foundational skills and internships to help them work in teams,” he said.
The internships would run for 4-12 weeks.
