The awards took place in Sydney and the team had some heavy competition with 14 other businesses from around Australia nominated in the same category.
Owner Karen Burbury said the submission requirements were extensive but she enjoyed the process as it pressed her to delve into the functions of the business, its connection to the community and staff morale.
Photos, videos and recommendation letters were included with entry questions to help judges depict a broader image of Cataract on Paterson.
“The charity that we launched in October put us in good stead to show we are really ethically aware of our community, as well as trying to build better business practices,” Ms Burbury said.
Cataract on Paterson have a strong team of 58 workers on a variety of employment status and Ms Burbury said the award is a reflection of their strong worth ethic and team spirit.
“Our competitors were really strong, the best of the best in the business,” Ms Burbury said.
“I thought it was great we were just finalists but to win it, for me, it was a great reward but I think I am going to be more excited when I walk in with the trophy [Sunday] for the team.”
The restaurant’s charity, Giving Back, has donated more than $50,000 in the last two years to a range of different causes.
