A seventh-generation circus performer, Mia competed in the Community Junior section against 14 eager participants aged 6-12.
Seven-year-old Mia was the only Tasmanian competing in the festival.
She was extremely shocked and excited to take out first prize in her division.
Shantal Kathriner, Mia’s mum, said Mia was the second youngest performer in the Community Junior section.
After third and second prize winners were announced Ms Kathriner said Mia stood on the stage in utter disbelief as she realised she’d won first place.
Only practicing once or twice a week, Mia added some very difficult tricks to her routine to be as competitive as possible against children nearly twice her age.
Confidence helped Mia get over the line as she was able to keep her head high and make eye contact throughout the performance.
