Our guilty conscience

October 8 2012 - 1:54pm

TASMANIA is counting the cost of being Australia's conscience. Tasmania's economy has suffered many blows recently. We seem to be Australia's conscience, no logging, no pulp mill, no fishing, no mining in the Tarkine - no development - not here.  If Tasmania is to become Australia's Natural History Museum how does the state fund it's fundamental roles? How do we pay for hospitals, schools, roads, housing, community welfare, and the list goes on? Where the rest of Australia looks to stimulate job growth, Tasmania is actively intent on cutting jobs. Jobs give people dignity, the self- respect of being able to feed the family. What is the cost of taking this away?
