Resident Ray Norman presented the petition to council on behalf of citizens and ratepayers of Launceston.
The document contained 1493 signatures, as well as requests related to the conduct of the meeting such as a call for an independent chairperson.
Wednesday’s meeting also saw the passage of a motion moved by Alderman Danny Gibson calling for a review of the City of Launceston’s funding arrangements with regional organisations such as Northern Tasmania Development and Tourism Northern Tasmania.
The motion requested a review be done in-house, and was carried unanimously.
Deputy Mayor Rob Soward and Aldermen Darren Alexander, Simon Wood, Emma Williams and Ted Sands were all absent from Wednesday’s meeting.
