A 25-year-old Beaconsfield man – the motorcyclist – was taken to hospital with serious head injuries following the crash near Corkereys Road just after 2pm.
A 19-year-old Talawa man – the Nissan driver – was unhurt.
The ugly incident is the fourth serious crash during Operation Crossroads – Tasmania Police’s holiday road blitz.
Tasmania Police Acting Sergeant Steve Ockerby said the motorcyclist was riding towards Launceston and the driver of the car was heading north-east.
Initial investigations indicate the car turned right onto Corkereys Road into the path of the motorcycle.
Traffic was halted for more than an hour in both directions following the incident.
Passersby witnessed pieces of motorcycle strewn across the road.
The incident follows two serious crashes on Easter Monday night.
An 11-year-old-girl – who was not wearing a helmet – lost control of her pushbike on a steep hill in the state’s North-West.
She remains at Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.
A 55-year-old Vanuatu tourist also fell asleep at the wheel at Tolmans Hill, south-west of Hobart on Monday afternoon.
There was also a serious incident involving a motorcyclist on Saturday night.
Tasmania Police has urged motorists to be tentative while driving home from Easter celebrations.
