A LAUNCESTON man who cut his wife's throat after she had taken out life insurance is refusing to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in prison.

Lokendra Singh was found guilty of attempted murder last year, after attacking his wife Renu Singh with a serrated kitchen knife at their Newnham home in February 2014.
The court also heard at the time that the India native strangled and suffocated the 30-year-old months after telling her to take out life insurance and being named as her beneficiary.
A disheveled Singh appeared at the Launceston Supreme Court via videolink from Risdon Prison on Friday afternoon.
During a directions hearing, the court heard that Singh had refused evaluation because he does not want to be to be seen by a Tasmanian doctor.
Singh will appear for another directions hearing on March 16.
He is expected to be sentenced some time after that.
