It turns out that Adam Voges is human after all. The run machine looked set for his third triple-figure unbeaten knock in as many innings, but was finally dismissed for 239 after being caught and bowled by Mark Craig to be the last man to fall in Australia's mammoth first innings of 562. It was Voges' second double-ton in three innings and his last three knocks have yielded 614. But order has been restored with his Test average (97.46) now inferior to the great Donald Bradman's 99.94.

Record almost caught and bowled over

While Voges stole most of the limelight during Australia's innings, and rightfully so given his Test average was hovering above 100 for a period, New Zealand actually created their own slice of history as they equalled the all-time Test record of four caught-and-bowleds in the one innings. The pick of the bunch was Corey Anderson's incredible effort to dismiss Nathan Lyon as he threw his left mitt out low to the ground, grabbed the ball and performed a somersault for good measure.

Umpire Illingworth might need to visit OPSM

You'd be forgiven for thinking umpire Richard Illingworth's eyes were painted on. The Englishman made another dodgy no-ball call on day three, this time Jackson Bird was the victim. Bird was penalised despite his heel being well behind the line and, adding insult to injury, Martin Guptill hit the extra ball for four. But that no-ball decision was nowhere near as costly as the one that gave Voges an extra life at the end of day one. Voges was on seven when he was clean bowled by Doug Bracewell - whose foot was also behind the line - and went on to make 239!

Respect still seems to be lacking for Lyon

When will Nathan Lyon finally get the full respect that he deserves from his opponents? Lyon is regarded as one of the best off-spinners in the world, and one of Australia's greatest, but there still seems to be a slight underlying lack of respect for the 28-year-old, as evidenced by the way Guptill and Tom Latham went out. The Kiwi openers needlessly attempted to slog Lyon out of the park with their team in relatively stable positions and, on both occasions, mistimed their shots to be caught by Voges and Khawaja respectively.

Script unkind to milestone man McCullum

Fairytale milestone matches aren't always guaranteed, as New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has found out. McCullum is playing his 100th Test match and has become the first player in history to play 100 consecutive Tests since debut. But the script writers haven't been kind to him as he not only went out for a duck in the first innings, but was also dismissed for 10 on the final ball of the third day to all but end New Zealand's faint hopes of saving this Test.
