Cure qualified for her third straight women's 3000m individual pursuit final on Thursday afternoon in Adelaide, up against New South Wales cyclist Ashlee Ankudinoff, with only four-tenths of a second separating the pair.

IThe final was easily the most anticipated event of the championships so far, with the two cyclists teaming up on Wednesday for the national team pursuit trials, then coming face to face in the individual pursuit final.

In what was the race of the night, both cyclists started well in the decider, with the lead changing more than three times during the 3000m race.

Cure took the lead by under a second early on, but it was Ankudinoff who took the lead with one kilometre to go and was never caught.

Ankudinoff finished the race and claimed gold in 3:32.535, while Cure took the silver with a time of 3:33.314.

Cure's silver medal is a further addition to her gold medals in the individual pursuit event from 2014 and 2015, as well as team pursuit gold medals in the two previous years.

Ankudinoff improved from last year's event, where she finished with the bronze medal at the 2015 track national championships, while Cure claimed the gold ahead of Rebecca Waisak.

Waisak claimed the bronze medal on Thursday night with a time of 3:38.794, ahead of Alex Manly, of South Australia.

In other results from Thursday, Tasmanian Hayden Di Cocco Grant claimed a bronze medal in the men's under-19 3000m individual pursuit, while Morgan Gillon finished fourth in the women's under-19 2000m final.
