EARLIER: SHACKS on the coast south of Arthur River are on high alert after forecast high winds threatened to push a large fire front towards the coast on Wednesday morning.
The Wuthering Heights Road fire was one of two being watched closely in the North-West yesterday, with light rain failing to significantly help firefighters.
Tasmania Fire Service public information officer Jarrod Read said a "watch and act" alert for Nelson Bay, Couta Rocks, Temma and Balfour had been issued mid-morning.
Mr Read said the upgrade was made due to expected high winds late on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.
"Some contingency plans have been put in place, including laying down fire retardant around the shack areas," he said.
Fire officers were door knocking around the communities to provide advice about what was anticipated within the next 24 hours.
Mr Read said a small amount of rainfall on Monday night had allowed firefighters to start the day a little later, but had done little to extinguish any of the fires in the region. "It had minimal effect; we really need some more," he said.
The fire remains at "alert level" west of Mawbanna Road.
The TFS reports that the northern flank of the fire was moving in a north-westerly direction through eucalypt forest and hardwood plantation.
The fire continues to generate significant smoke towards the North-West. A strategy was being developed to construct containment lines along the north-west boundary of the fire.
A "watch and act" alert was issued during Tuesday afternoon for an area to the north-west of the township of Perth due to a fire threat. This was later downgraded to an advice level.
A community liaison representative will be available for advice from 7am on Wednesday at the parks and recreation centre at Arthur River. This is for people wanting face-to-face information.
