The much-anticipated annual Longford Cup featured fashion, fun and exciting horse racing in brilliant sunshine.
Fashions on the Field attracted stellar sartorial talent, with 30 female and 13 male entrants.
Record numbers entered the children’s competition, with 43 youngsters ranging from toddlers to teenagers strutting their stuff.
Launceston nurse Quelin Chugg took out first prize in the ladies division. She wore a green and blue geometrically-patterned dress bought by her grandmother in Queensland.
Ms Chugg’s detailed hat was crafted by her grandmother, whose millinery brand ‘Hats by Leona’ is stocked in Launceston.
It was Ms Chugg’s first time in the Longford competition and second time entering any fashions on the field.
The 28-year-old was ‘‘very surprised’’ to be voted best dressed by the trio of judges.
She received a $1500 travel voucher prize.
Plenty of intricate millinery was on display on the day, with colourful fascinators a firm fixture on the catwalk.
Nineteen-year-old Cale Barrett of Penguin took out first prize in the men’s division for the second year in a row.
Mr Barrett travelled to Melbourne to buy his winning ensemble.
The accounting and economics student described fashion as a hobby. He won a $1000 Gazman voucher prize.
For ‘Wally’ Worker of Gravelly Beach, it was more about standing out from the crowd than looking stylish.
‘‘I love pink, that’s my favourite colour – all the fillies are looking,’’ Mr Worker said with a grin.
