Jordan Peters, Fiontan Cassidy and Harry Dempsey beat finalists from Launceston College and St Patrick’s College to claim the prize for their film Smackaroos.
MyState Student Film Festival judge Graham Gates said this year’s festival delivered some of most technically advanced films he’d seen produced by students.
‘‘It was a very difficult task to pick the winners for each category,’’ Mr Gates said, adding that Smackaroos stood out because it was smart and really well written.
‘‘Comedy acting is not easy but the guys in Smackaroos ticked every box – they really sold their characters and were consistent and very funny,’’ he said.
This year’s competition attracted 138 entries, with 522 students from 51 schools across the state participating.
Other winners include Launceston College student Jacob Collings, who picked up the Jonathan Dawson Encouragement Award for his film Toby, in which Lachie Murphy also won the award for Most Engaging Talent.
Devonport High School student James O’Malley won the Technical Achievement Award for Alone.
