The man died when a fully laden B-double log truck struck the side of his car while he was trying to perform a U-turn on Birralee Road, north of Westbury, about 5.45pm.
The driver of the log truck, a North-East man, was not injured.
The man's employer said on Friday that he was receiving support following the crash.
Police have not released the dead man's name and an investigation is under way to determine what happened.
Launceston Police Constable Paul Beaumont said the section of Birralee Road where the crash occurred was straight with no known driving challenges.
The road was well lit and clear at the time of the crash, he said.
The driver of the truck is employed by Ken Padgett Investments Pty Ltd.
Company owner Ken Padgett said his driver was not at fault.
"He didn't sleep much at all last night," Mr Padgett said.
"He's a tough guy but we're certainly concerned about him and we're getting the best help we can. We're working out the best way forward for him."
Anyone who saw either vehicle before the crash is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
