The man died in a crash with a fully-laden B-double log truck three kilometres south of Birralee Hall, north of Westbury, about 5.45pm.
Birralee Road between Frankford corner and Selbourne Road was closed for about four hours while police, volunteer firefighters and SES attended the scene.
The road was reopened about 10pm.
The driver of the log truck was not injured, but his employer has confirmed he is receiving support following the incident.
``He didn't sleep much at all last night,'' Ken Padgett Investments Pty Ltd owner Ken Padgett said.
``He's a tough guy but we're certainly concerned about him and we're getting the best help we can. We're working out the best way forward for him.''
The truck driver is from the state's North-East.
Police investigations are continuing.
Anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
