Luckily for the 17 Tasmanian artists involved in compiling Sawtooth gallery's latest exhibition, the Marathon Project was not a cause for procrastination but rather a lot of fun.

In March this year a team featuring artists, writers, ceramicists and jewellers pitched tents at 1430-hectare Deddington property Marathon, had a glass of wine together and then set off to explore their surroundings.

After gathering inspiration from the landscape the artists have since completed individual works - all of which will be on show from this Friday's 6pm opening.

Project co-ordinator Patrick Sutczak said the project began when the landowners contacted him with the idea of documenting the area through the lens of art.

"For the first outing I started to invite people that I knew would be a fit for the project and they were a lot Tasmanian artists that were working with landscape or response to site," he said.

"It's all tied to the site so all the works will be very different but you'll just have this beautiful cross-pollination of ideas."

Mr Sutzcak said the contribution of restoration ecologist Tanya Bailey would add another layer to the exhibition.

"Seedlings from the site are going to be planted back at the site, which will be really nice so it's not a straightforward exhibition."
