As Meatloaf sang on the Bat Out of Hell album, and Mr Grant twice showed at the Tasmanian Working Sheepdog Championships, at Deloraine, "two out of three ain't bad".
Mr Grant has won two of the past three Tasmanian championships and won two of this year's three classes.
He claimed open competition honours with Fleetwood Dot two years after winning it with McGlashans Mintie and this year's improver class with Fleetwood Essie.
Mintie failed to make the final this year.
Association publicity officer Carol Walduck said that Mr Grant's lack of success with Minty was explained by the judge.
"He said that the sheep reacted poorly to white dogs, like Minty, as opposed to black and white dogs like Fleetwood Dot," she said.
Mr Grant is also leading the 2016-16 Tasmanian Working Sheep Dog Association consistency leaderboard.
He hold equal first place with McGlashans Minty and Fleetwood Dot on six points, ahead of Bernard McGlashan who is equal third with himself with McGlashans Crash and Clearwater Kiwi on five points and fifth with Mocara Ice on four points.
The association's next trial will be at Exeter Showgrounds on December 5 and 6.
Spectators are welcome.
