Since the West Tamar Gourmet food van opened for business last month, the new venture has seen a steady stream of customers interested in their high quality, locally sourced products.
After a 20-year career as a police officer in Queensland, Peter Rodger has finally been able to take advantage of his passion for food.
Mr Rodger's ever-changing menu combines local favourites with international dishes, each one using high quality ingredients that have been farmed locally wherever possible.
The snow peas even came from Mr Rodger's own backyard.
With his food van camped at the Tamar Island Wetlands, Mr Rodger aims to attract the attention of not only passers-by, but any visitors to the wetlands who are looking for lunch.
So far, the van's menu has included Vietnamese banh mi, hot roast pork and apple gravy roll and mushroom bisque.
Mr Rodger said that he would be interested in adding more vegetarian and vegan items to his menu in the future.
"Cooking is something that I'm into, food and drink and pretty much anything that you can make," he said.
"I'm trying to run the business with a personal touch and doing food that's not regularly available, not just fast food.
"I'm just trying to put something on the menu that people haven't tried unless they've been overseas or food that is fantastic enough that they just have to try it."
West Tamar Gourmet is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am until 3pm.
