The Bass Liberal MHR on Monday said Tasmania would not suffer from losing cabinet roles through dumped employment minister and leader of the senate Eric Abetz, and that he was pleased to see increase female representation in the Turnbull government.
Although Mr Nikolic said he was disappointed by the loss of his whip title, he had ''absolutely'' buried the hatchet with the new leadership.
''If there's one thing we have to do as a team is demonstrate the sort of unity of purpose that the Australian people demand,'' he said.
Mr Nikolic said the rise of Mr Turnbull to Prime Minister would not significantly influence his chance of re-election next year, and did not regret supporting Mr Abbott in last week's spill.
''We will be re-elected on the quality of our policies, we'll be re-elected on what we've delivered for our communities, and here in Bass we've delivered over $80 million worth of projects and other funding since the 2013 election,'' he said.
''My job as a member of the whip's team is the make sure we had unity of purpose.
''I did my job to the best of my ability and will now be working to support the new leadership team who was sworn in today.''
Mr Nikolic said losing the title of whip will allow him to place greater focus on representing the Bass community.
