Three days after the Torns bowed out of the SEABL finals by losing their preliminary final 75-62 to Kilsyth in Melbourne, Potter said their season deserved recognition considering the injury and unavailability of top players and the early loss of home games to Geelong and Brisbane.

‘‘While we’re disappointed with Saturday’s result I’m very proud of what the group were able to achieve this season,’’ the head coach said.

‘‘We came off six wins the previous year and missing the play-offs to winning 14 games including a 10-game winning streak which set us up for the finals.’’

The Tornadoes will officially farewell their season with a presentation evening at Aurora Stadium tonight, which includes the announcement of the most valuable player award.

The club is confident of retaining the bulk of its players for 2016, although Potter is yet to talk to them individually.

‘‘Hopefully they would all like to play with the Tornadoes again next year,’’ he said.

The Tornadoes had Americans Mikaela Ruef and Emilee Harmon, from Ohio, and WNBL players Alex Wilson (Townsville) and captain Lauren Mansfield (Adelaide).

Potter said the Tornadoes would evaluate their budget and then start planning the playing roster for next season.

The 23-year-old will return to Sydney next week to take up his duties as assistant coach of the Sydney University Flames but has already committed to the Tornadoes for the next two years.

He said that from a personal point of view being given the chance to coach the Tornadoes had meant a huge step forward for him.
