Held at Orford for the first time, the multi-sport event attracted competitors from throughout the state.

The annual event consisted of a 10-kilometre paddle, 32km road cycle, 15km mountain bike leg and 10km run.

While most people took on the challenge in teams of four, some competitors tackled the event on their own.

Alex Hunt was the fastest male individual to finish the course in a time of 3:10:34.

In the team sections, the Running Edge Girls took home the fastest time in the female section with 3:39:52 and Bikeride Elite took out the male section in 2:54:24.

Winter Challenge race director Imojen Pearce said she heard only positive feedback from the competitors about the race's change of venue.

"Everyone loved the drier course and it was so beautiful up there looking out to Maria Island," she said.

"The individuals definitely found it really tough; it's a really sustained course, so not only is it hard to do it by yourself anyway, riding the technical trail is quite tricky."

Ms Pearce said the event had become a very social one and was not just reserved for serious competitors.

"Different people are giving it a go now. It used to just be people who trained the whole time doing the event as individuals, but now people are giving it a crack and they think it's awesome," she said.

"It's a very social event and there's a lot of camaraderie.

"It's not like competing in a triathlon or a marathon, it's more just hanging out with 150 friends."
