Livestock Biosecurity Network Tasmanian regional officer Jess Coad will inform industry stakeholders on how to reduce and prevent parasites and diseases on sheep properties at the forum in Oatlands on Saturday, August 29.
"It is raising awareness to the level of risk and what practices can be done to reduce that risk," Dr Coad said.
"For example, lice is a parasite that is know to be in 40 per cent of Australian flocks, it is similar to, say, head lice in schools in that there are things that can be done to reduce the risk of it spreading from pupils.
"These parasites and diseases are normally easily treatable."
The Launceston-based keynote speaker has experience in agricultural research, development and extension with the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture and holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy.
She said pests, such as lice, can impact wool quality and that it is in the farmer's best interests to tackle the problem early.
She said these type of problems can result in a significant loss in productivity.
"Some farmers are really well informed and don't have lice and if they do have an incursion they are in a position to eradicate it rather quickly," Dr Coad said.
"Others require a bit more effort."
There will also be an open forum of wool exporters and processors on current market trends, an industry update and 2016-18 code of practice review.
The forum is free and people must RSVP by calling (02) 9428 6100 or emailing woolclasser@ewex.com.au.
