A former volunteer firefighter has avoided jail for lighting a series fires in the Epping Forest area.

Allan David Broadhead, 32, pleaded guilty to five counts of unlawfully setting fire to vegetation, after lighting five fires over a three day period in December.
The Supreme Court of Tasmania in Hobart was on Friday told Broadhead started the fires near the dog breeder where he worked.
One blaze near did damage to train lines, required firefighters to be in attendance overnight, and caused traffic delays on the Midland Highway.
Justice Shan Tennent convicted Broadhead of the five offences, and sentenced him to six months in prison, which she wholly suspended.
He was also ordered to pay $13,060 in compensation to TasRail and a victims of crime levy of $350.
Justice Tennent said Broadhead appeared to have started the fires "out of boredom".
