The report estimated that 99 per cent of Tasmania's wine grape production in 2015 was profitable, while across Australia 85 per cent of production was estimated to be made at a loss.
Wine Tasmania chief executive Sheralee Davies said she urged caution in the interpretation of the 99 per cent figure because profitability remained a challenge for Tasmanian wine producers, however she said the state was definitely in a better position than any other region.
"They key points are that Tasmania, according to that report, is currently the strongest wine region in Australia," she said.
"That's a very positive sign and it's because we're producing great quality wines and we're growing the demand and the reputation of those great quality wines.
"We'd like to hope that Tasmania would continue to be the strongest wine region in the country for the foreseeable future."
Ms Davies said Tasmania tended to produce premium quality wines in modest volumes, which was a distinct point of difference from mainland producers who often produced more wine than demand required.
"Because we're producing premium wines people aren't necessarily buying Tasmanian wines because they want to grab the cheapest wine possible, they're specifically interested in the sort of quality that Tasmania can produce," she said.
"The other key thing which is really important is that, from a state perspective we've been really really focused on promoting Tasmanian wines right around the world so making sure that people understand the great quality we're producing and making sure that we really drive that demand for our wines."
Ms Davies said the Tasmanian industry was also less susceptible than other regions to the fluctuating Australian dollar because less than 10 per cent of Tasmanian produced wines were exported.
