A MAN with a history of domestic violence has been fined after he pleaded guilty to having assaulted his daughter on a watered-down complaint.

The Northern Tasmanian man, who cannot be identified, faced the Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday for a contest mention on one count of common assault.
The complainant was the man's 16-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Magistrate Simon Brown convicted the man and fined him $450 after negotiations between police prosecutions and defence resulted in the removal of the allegation that the man had pinned his daughter's wrists behind her back.
Mr Brown noted that the man's plea of guilty was on the basis that he sat on his daughter to effectively restrain her, while she lay in bed, and his slap across her face was not with full force or with his full hand.
He said the man had prior convictions for violence, including domestic violence against his daughter's mother.
Mr Brown said he accepted the man was frustrated with his daughter's behaviour and was trying to reason with her, but this failed to justify his conduct.
