A Greek bailout fund has been launched on crowdfunding site, Indiegogo, seeking to raise €1.6 billion, because the European Unions 503 million citizens could surely succeed where their political masters have failed, says the campaign.

"All this dithering over Greece is getting boring. European ministers flexing their muscles and posturing over whether they can help the Greek people of not. Why don't we the people just sort it instead?" says the listing, authored by Thom Feeney.

"If we all just chip in a few Euro then we can get Greece sorted and hopefully get them back on track soon. Easy."

The fundraiser, which was launched in the UK on Tuesday, is off to a flying start with 712 people pledging a total of €10,602 as of 1:30pm Australian time.

That leaves a balance of €1,599,989,398.

"It might seem like a lot but it's only just over €3 from each European. That's about the same as half a pint in London. Or everyone in the EU just having a feta and olive salad for lunch."

For a €3 pledge, the campaign said donors will get a postcard of the Greek Prime Minister, Alex Tsipras, sent from Greece.

This scales up to a bottle of Ouzo for a ten euro donation, and a Greek bottle of wine for €25.

Greece has certainly done its part to raise money.

In 2012 it put around 70,000 lots of state assets up for sale, including, long stretches of its pristine coast, entire islands, royal palaces, and its UK embassy.
