The ABC presenter, entrepreneur and trained chef will donate all profits from the sale of Dogs of India to charity Vets Beyond Borders.
Almost $7000 had been raised for the organisation by Friday night - and even better, contributions will be matched proportionately with anything from an eBook to an Indian feast for 10 prepared by McGee herself.
Just $15 - enough for Dogs of India on Kindle - would provide enough to vaccinate 40 dogs against rabies.
McGee said Dogs of India, the product of 12 months of writing and 18 months of editing, was centred around dogs and monkeys, the rights of Indian women and corruption.
She dreamt up the story while in India in 2011.
McGee said she was struck by the role of pariah dogs in society and inspired by the shift in sexual politics.
"As someone who was a student of Sanskrit epics I love Indian epics and tales, but dogs had never been elevated in the pantheon of gods," she said.
"What if dogs had been heroic?"
McGee said receiving the 500 printed copies of Dogs of India had been cause for celebration but donating the book's profits made perfect sense.
"I was elated when the boxes of books arrived, it was exactly what I wanted," she said.
"I have enough. I want to make sure what I do has a bigger life than me and leaves a bigger legacy than me."
